Though we often associate work-related eye problems to outdoor jobs, office jobs also impose hazard on eye health. Blurry screen, watery eyes and throbbing head, after a long day of office work? Fret not, you’re definitely not alone in this situation.

Research has shown that we blink far lesser than usual when we’re using digital screen devices. Therefore, our eyes dry out more quickly, resulting in discomfort and irritation.

Workplace Eye Care Good Practices

1. Keep your monitor at an arm’s length away (50-70cm).

While it is aesthetic to have clear window for a good view, glare from the light outside may strain your eyes further. Consider curtains to block out the lights or position the monitor away from the window.

2. Golden 20-20-20 rules.

Take a 20 seconds break, every 20 minutes, by looking at something 20 feet away. This relaxes the eyes muscles when you are looking further away. At the same time, it promotes eyes blinking to restore the moistures in your eyes💧.

3. Use lubricationg eye drops (artificial tears).

This is to provide moisture and relief for dry eyes. Go for preservative-free eye drops, as preservatives content may be irritative to the eyes.

4. Opt for cold white light in office room.

Since they are not spaces for relaxing, cold light will help you improve your performances. It will help you be focused and well-concentrated during the day. P.s.: Yellow light may create relaxing environment but the brightness is insufficient for reading and office works.

Regular Eye Examination

It’s important to schedule your regular comprehensive eye examination with your optometrist to keep your eye health in check.
Do share any potential work-related concerns and hazards to your optometrist, so that they can provide suggestions and advices accordingly.
Let’s prioritise our eye health no matter if you’re working indoors or outdoors. Employers or employees, no one should be left behind for eye health!

Eyeglasses for Computer Work

Anti blue light glasses: help protect your eyes from harmful blue light and UV rays.

Relax glasses: help relief eye strains and eye fatigue due to digital screens usage.
There are two zones in the lens:
1. Clear zone dedicated to the far vision;
2. Relax zone with a slightly lower power for the near vision.
This combination helps to reduce the stress of the eyes from daily tasks such as reading and computer work.
