Did you know that over 800 millions people with poor eyesight lack access to a pair of eyeglasses? (source: United Nations). Apparently, primary eye care is far from accessible to everyone, everywhere. This global issue has been close to our heart since the beginning of Rx optometry.

We set out to not only make comprehensive eye examination compulsory but also make it accessible to everyone, everywhere within our capacity. On 30th June 2022, we paired up with Kampung Tunku’s state office, led by YB Lim Yi Wei to provide free eye screening for 100 residents in SS2, Petaling Jaya. Primarily focused on senior residents, as our team of registered optometrists performed visual acuity test, dry eye test and cataract screening. 

Dry eyes and cataracts are common as we age, because our eyes naturally get weaker and deteriorate over time. Our optometrists prescribed preservative free artificial tears eye drops for people who were diagnosed with dry eyes. Senior residents who were diagnosed with cataracts were recommended to protect their eyes against UV with polarised fitover sunglasses. Some were recommended for surgery with ophthalmologists, depending on the maturity of cataracts.
